Interurban Electric Railway debated in Laurel

Mr J H Clark chief engineer for A W Hewes contractor in the Hattiesburg Electric Power Station and street railway was in Laurel last week. His visit stirred talk of an interurban line from Laurel through Ellisville to Hattiesburg. He said he did not come about the line but opined such a railway would be a good investment given the region and likely development.

Narrow Escape From The Flames In Pettibone Cottage

Mrs. Campbell barely escaped a bedroom fire in the Pettibone addition early Saturday after a lamp left burning ignited heat. She suffered scorched hands and face as flames destroyed a five room cottage owned by Mr. Thomas Hicks. Insurance on the building stood at 350 dollars.

John Musgrove Killed in Texas Letter Details Death

A Laurel Ledger dispatch from Milvid Texas dated October 9 1909 reports John Gordon Musgrove once of this county died in a boiler explosion aboard a McGiffert log loader. His fireman died instantly while Musgrove survived long enough to reveal how the accident occurred.
