The new hotel at the Magnolia and Oak streets corner by W. W. Beatty is nearing completion and will soon open. Manager T. N. Clark has leased the building and naming it The Southern Hotel, with large plate glass windows and a handsome facade viewed from nearby streets.
Saturday morning Phil Cook took his dogs to Sandersville at the request of Jeff Stinson who accused a local thief of stealing cotton seed. The trail led to a white man’s house where sacks of cotton seed were found as Stinson’s property. The dogs then tracked to a Black suspect’s home, but no one was found there.
A Mississippi Historical Society study ranks Laurel seventh among industrial towns, ahead of Natchez, Greenville, and Yazoo City. The piece urges collective effort to boost Laurel's visibility and census standing ahead of the 1910 survey, calling for organization and sustained promotion.

Ed Farewell a Richton Light and Power lineman narrowly escaped a serious accident near the K C round house on Saturday. He slipped while boarding a moving passenger train and his left foot was severely injured under a wheel. The engineer’s prompt action likely saved him from a worse fate.
The dry goods house of William White at 503 Central Avenue filed for voluntary bankruptcy. Liabilities reach 7200 while assets total 6800. J C Clark Drug Co. of Laurel named temporary receiver. creditors to elect trustees as proceedings proceed. White, once part owner with brother Lon White, faced financial strain amid the downturn.
Manager W. S. Taylor has taken the east half of Featherze Hardee building on Oak street, opening The Bijou for winter with vaudeville, stock, and moving pictures. Ceiling two stories high, 90 by 20 front, stage 12 feet deep. First matinee Thanksgiving Day at 3 30 p m.
After a Saturday blaze destroyed the 1000 foot trestle over Tallahoma Creek near Laurel, travel resumed by foot crossing for passengers. Freight detours route via Hattiesburg and Jackson while Eastman Gardiner mill logs supply continues. reconstruction crews work round the clock to reopen crossings by Monday or Saturday.
A Kansas City telegram reports that Democratic Congressman David A. DeArmond of Missouri died in a Butler home fire while attempting to save his grandson. The blaze destroyed the residence early today, ending the life of one of the party’s ablest legislators.
