The Southern Truck Growers League holds its annual convention in this city on Friday and Saturday November 24 and 26. Delegates from about forty state Louisiana and Alabama associations will decide if the league will continue to handle the truck or if members will market individually. The 2 year old group faced ups and downs with profits improving in the first year but suffering in the second due to low prices and transport costs. Tragedy in Neshoba: Ethal Byrd Kills James Rhidaut
Ethal Byrd, nephew of Congressman Adam Byrd, shot and killed attorney James Rhidaut in Philadelphia Neshoba County. Both men were prominent attorneys and real estate dealers. Byrd was jailed without bail. the motive remains unknown. The incident occurred near the site of Byrd’s father’s killing two years earlier.

Drove of Sheep Passes Through Town
A drove of 296 sheep led by N. P. Welborn moved through town Thursday morning. They were purchased in Jasper county for Mr. Newt Smith and driven toward Greene county where abundant vacant land could support large droves. Greene county once a rich sheep region but now has only small flocks.

Our Exhibits at Local Fair Highlight Potatoes and Peaches
Fleet Morse near Mossville has the best sweet potatoes with all others so far beaten. He brought in a pumpkin weighing 4 3 4 pounds this week. Soso canning factory showed pears and peaches on exhibit. The Ledger's exhibits generate favorable comment in this city and have been noted in the State press via Secretary Blackeslee of the Greater Mississippi Association.

Lineman Hurt In Magnolia Street Fall
Sylvester Hall a Cumberland Telephone Co. lineman fell from a ladder on Magnolia Street to the sidewalk Friday morning, suffering severe bruises and a cut above the ear. He struck his assistant during the fall, and might have been killed otherwise.

Compress Receipts and Cotton Prices Drop
Receipts to date total around 30,000 bales with most cotton ginned in three counties processed at this location. Farmers resist holding at fifteen cents, receipts decline after the price fell below eleven cents, though many farmers say the crop is worth at least that and will hold or await higher prices for the remainder.
