On August 14 J M Lindsey of Laurel picked an 80 pound melon shipped to F A Taber in Mobile. Taber sent it to his father in Poughkeepsie New York where it drew crowds, then stored in cold storage until late October. The father reported the melon remained solid and edible after long keeping, proving Mississippi melons store well.
