Lindsey Park attracts growing crowds despite bad weather that hindered work during the free week. May 11th week offers city officials a free ride on the Brown Auto and a country truck farm spread. The main issue is securing street extension north of Kingston school to reach the park.
This Laurel article details a Saturday fundraising drive titled Pianos for the Schools. students compete in teams from Central and West End schools, with prizes of 10 and 5 dollars to top sellers and 5 and 2.50 dollars to top students. Tags cost 10 cents for individuals and 26 cents for business houses, with teams of three per grade.
The Mississippi Conference Sunday School Board presents a four session institute starting Monday May 10 at 8 PM. This week brings nice farming weather with some fields still awaiting planting. A Sunday service at Antioch drew a crowd including Miss Mollie McBride and Miss Vick Windham. J S Williams, back from a New Orleans surgical visit, is recovering well. Mrs S M Allen of Vossburg visits her sister Mrs J S Williams. D J Boutwell remains ill. The community anticipates a hopping cough outbreak after exposure.
The editor is asked to amend the notice adjusting the unveiling from May 26 to May 16, the third Sunday in May, to prevent any misunderstanding and satisfy the requester Louin.
Supt. L. R. Massey and fifteen Jasper county teachers stopped in Laurel Saturday night on their return from the State Teachers Association at Natchez. They appeared slow but in high spirits, with about twenty other Jasper county teachers smoking nearby. The cement sidewalk boom is growing, with blocks already in the resident part and the business district set to fill in. J. Hatcher Hardy visited Stringer on Sunday.
Yesterday's baseball doubleheader featured seven home runs by Laurel, most from errors. The Y M C A and Cotton Mill met in a chilly, well matched game at West End park with scores 13 to 12 in favor of Cotton Mill, after a 10-2 and 12-2 earlier contests.
The Woman's Missionary Union of Second Baptist Church met on Thursday April 29 with Mrs Buckelow. Plans were discussed to meet at night on May 13 to accommodate day workers and to hold one night meeting each quarter. A committee was formed to choose and buy new church carpet. Refreshments were served and 96 cents in dues collected. The group adjourned to meet May 13 at the church with a missionary union program and music, everyone invited.
Mr and Mrs W J Loyd of Gitano after weeks with relatives in Va are in Laurel arranging to settle there. Mr and Mrs Jack Thornton celebrate a ten pound boy born on the 28th at their home this week.
The Y M C A noted a plain and practical service last Sunday with impressive advice from Mr Hall for young men. Laurel businessman speakers are expected to bring sustained benefit over the next three months as many join the front line efforts.

Old Maud is catching it again this week. The bell card is constantly being pulled over her back. Rev. Mr. Crawford of Hattiesburg was here on business last week. Mrs W L Ainsworth of Taylorsville was visiting relatives here Saturday and Sunday. Rev. Mr. Walters of Simpson Co preached at Spring Hall Sunday evening. B F Sumrall, Surveyor, went to Hattiesburg last week in the interest of his profession. Supt. Waldrup has agreed to pay the principal of Spring Hill school 75.00. Judging from what he has been paying, money is getting more plentiful. To prove that the people of this community are waking up, more than a dozen home canaries have been ordered. All day at Spring Hill Sunday. Better come out.
