The Ledger prize jar displayed in the Dunagin Whitaker Co window was stolen Friday night. Thief shattered the plate glass with an iron pin to remove the jar, which contained ten quarters five dimes four half dollars two silver dollars three one dollar bills and one hundred nickels. The miscount and later correction on the jar’s total caused extra confusion among readers and merchants.

Mt Rose farmers await spring to plant corn as a large crowd enjoyed a rainy day at school. The community records show school closure on Saturday March 13, with pupils uneasy yet hopeful. Visitors Mr B F Valentine and Fred Ducksworth from South Mississippi College came to see relatives last week. Miss Yallie Smith departed for home near rata, while Miss Barbara Wade and Peargon Powell, who attended school here, returned home near Centerville.
Several road stranglers fell here last week and drowned the Service saw mill. C G Bush made a flying trip to Hattiesburg Tuesday. J M Holloway went to Meridian Sunday for a few days. Born to Mr and Mrs W H Smith March 6 two girls weighing 3 and 4 pounds one died a week later. Regardless of bad weather a large crowd attended the last day of school with Liberty cornet band providing music. Liberty school closed Friday. It doesn t take a course in veterinary science for Ora Soule to diagnose a Service calf.

Hebron reports severe weather this past week with farmers hopeful corn in the ground may suffer less loss if conditions improve. Inmeat Knight visits for a few days. Mrs B F Hutt returns from Laurel. Hebron school closed Friday. Prof Mason and Miss Cora Kline have returned home. S M Hutt was in the area. Huff brothers traveled to Summerland to check on a proposed mill site. Hebron roads into Laurel appear better than toward Partridge Plains with an auto passing through en route to Laurel from Collins.

Mrs. E P Lacy died suddenly of heart failure Monday March 15 at her son in law T W Yates home Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church Tuesday evening with interment in Hickory Grove cemetery
On a March 3 afternoon, Mrs J B Jarvis, vice-president, spoke to the Union outlining tasks for the year. A sick committee was set up, $9.45 was collected for dues and missions, and the group adjourned to meet Mrs Webb on March 18.

A temperance lecture by Miss Hollister at Fifth Avenue Methodist drew a good crowd despite bad weather. Mrs J C Locke and Miss May Clarke are on the sick list.

James Combes, about 27, died from a severed artery after a jump saw detached while running at the Carter mill ten miles north of town. He worked the mill as an edger, about 12 to 15 feet from the machine, which had just begun sawing lumber. Medical aid arrived quickly, but immense blood loss proved fatal. His widow and two children are left, with many mourners expressing sympathy. The same saw previously injured Mr. Dyess and nearly harmed James Mc Williams.
Wausau people slated to visit Laurel Friday or Saturday, inspect holdings in Texas and Louisiana, stay a few days, and travel by special car to Jackson Monday. The Laurel mill project drew public interest as details of enlarging the local facility were anticipated. Dunagin Whitaker Co. invites attendance at the millinery opening on March 24 and 25.
