Arm Amputation After Mill Accident
Harry M Key suffered severe injury at Hastman Gar diner & Co hardwood mill when a set screw caught his sleeve and tore the arm near the shoulder. The left arm was amputated, and he sustained a deep wound to the right ear and eye. doctors McCormick Crawford and Hyde attended him. A Ledger interview suggested he went beneath the shaft to remove splinters and the machinery started by mistake.

Endangered Property Alleged in Eclipse Laundry Case
Mrs. McGhee charged Eclipse Laundry with threats to surrounding properties as sparks from the smoke stack endanger nearby homes. Mr. Hall was brought into court Wednesday under a city ordinance for operating a public nuisance. The case was continued to allow improvements, including heightening the stack and adding spark arrestors.

Jones County Medical Society holds large Laurel meeting
The Jones County Medical Society met in Laurel on Tuesday March 13 starting at 2 p m and continuing all afternoon. Many papers were read and discussed freely, followed by a banquet at 7 p m. The secretary Dr W B Cranford notes the society is now one of the largest in the state.

W M Carter Lumber Co wholesale dealers and manufacturers of lumber and shingles opened an office in Laurel in the Wallace Drug Co building. The firm operates three sawmills and one planing mill at Haney a shingle mill at Heidelberg and seeks mills on the M J K C railroad. Mr Carter will locate at Laurel and move his family there when a residence is found or a suitable site is built. Carter, who arrived eleven years ago from north Alabama, has long been prominent in the lumber business.

J B Bridges S A Carnes and S Cross arrange three two story brick and stone structures on Commercial avenue west of Frank Gardiner and Rumble office. Bridges has let a contract for his building to Norris of Laurel. Laurel Grocery Co. will occupy both floors. Buildings measure 26 by 70 feet. Carnes plans to proceed soon. Cross is weighing plans and likely to start shortly.

Dr Franklin L Riley professor of History at the University of Mississippi will speak in Laurel next Friday March 23 as the guest of the local public schools faculty. He will give a popular lecture Friday evening with a small admission fee and Saturday and Friday afternoon lectures on the teaching of History.
