Court House Injunction Case Decided At Ellisville

In Chancellor McCaskill's Ellisville court the injunction to block the courthouse election was dismissed. The board of supervisors represented by Hardy and Arnold were awarded $500 in damages for their fees, while Witherspoon and Pack argued for the injunction base. The judge sustained the demurrer and left the election to proceed, stating the vote should now be counted and declared. The outcome is viewed as a near flawless local election and likely not to be appealed.

Big Picnic and Barbecue at Laurel July 4

A community Fourth of July picnic and barbecue in Laurel is planned for July 4 at Oak Grove and Magnolia street near Kingston. Everyone is invited with baskets. A big parade starts at Odd Fellows Hall at 10 30 am followed by addresses, a dinner at noon, another address by Hon. J H Curry of Meridian at 2 pm, battalion drill at 4 pm and a sham battle at 5 30 pm. Dinner free and all fraternal orders are invited to participate.

Laurel Oil and Fertilizer Co Stockholders Meet

Stockholders of the Laurel Oil and Fertilizer Co. held their annual meeting Tuesday night. W. W. Pigford of Lumberton was added to the board of directors. Officers reelected: T. B. Bonner president F. G. Wisner vice president and K. C. Hall secretary and manager. The gathering was routine with no public interest seen.

South Mississippi College to relocate to Hattiesburg

Plans near completion for a Southeast Mississippi college formerly to be located at Poplerville under Prof. W. S. Thames. Officials say Hattiesburg is the logical site and will likely host the institution, strengthening higher education in the region.

J J Newman Lumber Co has sold 13810 acres of Perry county stump land to Blakely Manufacturing Co of New Jersey for immigration purposes. This may trigger large scale settlement in the pine region as several major lumber firms discussed with an East syndicate plans to populate cut over lands with Northern European immigrants within a definite period.

Mr Otho Parker of Pachuta visited relatives here Sunday. Mrs Coleman and Maud Smith ill with fever, hoped to recover soon. Miss Bamma Rogers had dental work in Laurel Friday and Saturday. Miss Jenal Bostick enjoyed a visit to Miss May Bethea at Heidelberg Sunday.
