Laurel Miss June 18 1900 Dear Customer On July first or as soon thereafter as I may be able to close out my stock I will retire from the retail grocery business Beginning this day no goods will be charged and memorandums made It is necessary for me to convert my stock of groceries into ready cash All goods will be marked down as closely as possible and sold for CASH I have a very large stack of fresh up to date groceries and need the money so if you need groceries come to me with the cash and I will make the prices right All accommodations which have been extended to customers must be settled by July 5 I trust that those who have been given this accommodation will come forward promptly and settle their accounts It is not my intention to retire from the active field of business in Laurel but will probably engage in the wholesale business.
Laurel Relief Society hosts an entertainment evening at Mrs. Frank Gilchrist's home to raise funds for citywide relief efforts. The program features Miss Boykin a trained nurse and Nashville storyteller Mrs. Harry Anderson. Tickets are urged to secure entry amid a large anticipated crowd.
Attorney General J B Stirling and railroad lawyers testified last week in the injunction suit to halt the new union depot. The state moved to dissolve the injunction as testimony on local passenger service was presented. The case was continued due to missing railroad witnesses.

J. A. Benson died last Saturday and was buried Sunday after a severe lung hemorrhage. J. C. Clark and W. T. Taylor, previously sick with fever, are reported improved following several days of illness.
Revs. L. St. Lightsey of Mont and B. S. Gay of Meridian attended the preachers' meeting in the city on Monday. Both ministers traveled to participate in the event and discuss church matters.
