Gulf states face two weeks of heavy rain with an estimated fifteen inches from Louisiana to Alabama. Towns are destroyed by wind and flood, creating loss of life and property. Farmers grow discouraged as soil erosion worsens and pastures suffer from persistent downpours.

Rexall will host Y M C A at West End park Saturday after rain postponed road games against Livingston Alabama and Meridian. Both teams are evenly matched in a fan friendly contest. The item notes local departures for crop statistics discussions and district religious conference attendance.

Extra Mobile and Ohio freight engine No. 158 with engineer J H Albright of Meridian and W F Carter of this city pilot and William Evans a Negro fireman toppled near Mobile about 4 10 Saturday. All three killed instantly and four others injured in caboose. Engine derailed after washout. buried beneath wreckage. Carter a longtime M and O conductor. wife notified. bodies sent to Meridian and Mobile for interment.
Rev W A McComb conducts a revival at Rev Jones church in West End attracting strong interest. About fifty converts have joined through personal work and preaching. The meeting closes Sunday night with a sunrise prayer service and a 3:30 pm ladies meeting. McComb also preaches at the Y M C A at 4 pm.
The mayor and aldermen approve letting the mayor publish city ordinances and official notices through his newspaper, claiming legality concerns and prior precedent. Critics cite potential conflicts of interest and cite 1906 law condemning officials profiting from public contracts, warning of penalties and removal from office.
A steam feed pipe blew at the Gilchrist Fordney plant in Kingston last Saturday. A section punched through a brick wall and released a full head of steam, triggering a mill-wide steam fog and a rush to the area. No injuries were reported beyond possible minor steam burns.

A pair of freight sections collided near Richton Sunday night on the Mobile and Ohio line. The second section struck the first, destroying two cars and the caboose and damaging the engine. The engineer and fireman jumped before the impact. no injuries were reported.
From the Shreveport Times, the Grand Opera House staging of Little Princess delighted a large enthusiastic audience. Ballets choruses and dances blended into beautiful pictures. the entire production left a lasting impression on all who witnessed it at the court house auditorium Tuesday night June 8, 1909.
The plan to relocate the Old Red Front Store to the K of P lot west of Beard Buntin Co. was dropped after public protest. The lot, sold to J B Bridges earlier, was to host Eastman Gardiner Co. The fire limit blocked the permit, and opposition led to abandonment.

J C Holifield and family stayed over with T W Welborn.
