Hail storm hits Laurel leaving crops ruined
A heavy hailstorm struck Saturday evening along a one mile by four mile stretch near Laurel. The storm injured J. W. Welborn A. Ishee B. F. Ishee C. Ishee W. F. Pip in W. M. and A. J. Sanders. Crops damaged include corn stripped to stubs eight to twelve inches high, cotton beaten flat, and fruit gardens ruined. Mr. Ishee feared severe overall losses though hopeful the worst may pass.

Death by opiate poisoning shocks Nashville area
Coroner holds inquest and returns verdict after R L Beazley, a Pelican Cracker Factory salesman from New Orleans, dies here last Saturday from poison. He registered at Laurel Hotel after arriving Thursday from the Northeast and spent Friday in a pool hall with Frank Scott and others. The friends of Hon. B. E. Eaton will learn he has been appointed District Attorney for the district covering Lawrence Jefferson Davis Covington Simpson Smith Scott and Jones counties. Eaton, born 1878 in Taylorsville Smithy, moved to Laurel in 1904, formed a law partnership with B. W. Shaborough, studied at Millsaps and law school, practiced in Hattiesburg a year, then moved to Laurel.
