Crops in the community are fairly good and exceptionally free from grain though geese in the cotton patch. Attendees from here joined the Laurel Fourth of July celebration and a cream supper at Sam Parish home Saturday night. Mr and Mrs Bush welcomed a fine girl and Mr and Mrs Mauldin a bouncing baby boy. The Spring Hill sing was postponed to September. A Service saw mill shutdown due to timber. A passenger engine wreck west of Service Friday evening caused by a railroad spike reportedly laid by a Black man, and the spike was tossed into the caboose. The assailant was chased.
Mr Gaines Morgan and Miss Lillie Cook were quietly married last Thursday at the home of the bride's father William Cook near Heidelberg. The couple comes from two of the county's oldest and most prominent families, well known throughout the area.
Miss Nina Brown, beloved resident of Laurel, died Wednesday in Iuka, Mississippi, from fever after a short illness following her departure from the city. The town mourns her loss and extends sympathy to the bereaved family. The note ends with an advertisement urging the Puck Brand at Bush's Palace Grocery.
Buford Sumrall about 14 was killed when a timber bolt struck him at the Wheeler shingle mill. He was treated locally and surgeons removed bone fragments. the injury occurred from a timber thrown from the saw. The boy’s family includes Ben Sumrall and a brother who lost a hand at the mill Monday. Rev Betts of Montrose Miss will preach at 11 AM and 8 PM next Sunday. public invited.

Travis Abney advertise furniture and house furnishings with strong terms. Jones County Farmers Union to meet at Shady Grove on Wednesday July 14 with large crowds anticipated.
