Head End Collision Near Newton Kills Two Firemen
A head end collision occurred Monday at 11:05 am one and a half miles south of Newton between a south bound extra and the north bound No. 22 local. Firemen Sanders and Dan Todd were killed. Fisher the extra’s engineer survived, Boyd the local engineer was severely wounded and unconscious for hours. Both engines remained on track and became stuck together after the crash.

Mayor McCallum Not a Candidate for Reelection
Mayor T. G. McCallum informed the Ledger he will not seek another term. He has served four years with a steady, conservative administration noted for calm judgment. He left for Tate Springs, Tennessee, for the summer to improve his health after a two year decline.

Miss Ruth Bacon, who spent winter in St Louis attending college, is back home after a delightful visit to friends in Clinton Iowa. Dunagin Whitaker Co reports a record Mill and Factory sale with odd lots and remnants at greatly reduced prices. A petition with about two hundred signers asked Mayor and Board of Aldermen to census for 7,000 police justice law, referred to a committee. Burglars Strike Frank Gardiner Hardware Store
Burglars entered the Frank Gardiner Hardware & Supply Co on Magnolia St on Saturday night, securing about 90 to 100 dollars, several pistols, and cash from two drawers. A pocketbook with 10 dollars and papers was left behind. The safe was forced with a screwdriver, and whiskey from the safe was partly taken. No clues to the culprits. The following Sunday night another depot cash drawer was entered with about 15 dollars stolen while agents were nearby.

Tom Prescont suffered injuries Monday evening when a horse frightened, jerking a shed onto him at Griffin Market. head and back injuries and a deep cut were reported. J P Bethea, a trackman for Iastman Gardiner & Co, has returned home after six months at the works.
