Death of Olin C. Hunt Shocks Laurel City

The town mourns the loss of Olin C. Hunt a respected Laurel lawyer and longtime church and fraternal leader. Born 1867 in Georgia he moved to Scott County Mississippi as a youth and later practiced law in Newton and Laurel. He served briefly as mayor elect before his death on January 20 after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Main Street Methodist Church with city officials serving as pallbearers and Bishop Bratton presiding at St. John’s Church the following Sunday.

Attacked in Sumrall by Unknown Negro, Description Released

Mrs. M. A. Miller was assaulted at 7:30 am by a male Black suspect in Sumrall Mississippi. The man stood about 5 ft 6 in, weighed 1385 pounds, with curly black hair and a mole on the left cheek. He wore a dirty blue overalls suit and No 8 shoes. He entered through an alternate exit, choking her and injuring her neck skin before fleeing toward nearby woods as a posse pursued. Authorities urge readers to aid in identification and capture.

Attempted Robbery Foiled At Sandersville Bank

An attempted robbery of the Bank of Sandersville ended when the intruder lacked dynamite and abandoned the plan. He fled into the night without gaining entry or loot, leaving authorities with a baffling, unsolved incident.

Tragic Train Accident Claims Kingston Boy

Twelve year old Byrd Jerome LeNoir died in a gruesome train accident near Kingston after slipping under a passing train while attempting to retrieve mail. His mangled body was prepared at the Y M C A before burial at Hickory Grove Cemetery following services at the First Baptist Church.

Readings by Mary Flanner at Laurel YMCA Hall

The Argus club presents Mary Flanner, noted reader, at the Laurel YMCA hall on February 2nd. A New Skating Rink in Laurel

A Laurel skating rink enters practical certainty as a stock company of $5000 is formed with O. P. Pool as president J. H. Galleger as vice president and W. M. Carter as secretary and treasurer The location is not fixed but plans include about 7000 square feet of floor space with ample accommodation for skaters.
