Mr Heald manager for the Naval Stores Co arrived from Virginia to announce definite plans for rebuilding the Laurel plant. He says work will start in a few days with a plant about the size of the old one and improved building and machinery layouts. Plans for rebuilding the paper mill remain undecided with no timetable given.
Mrs Claude Shows of Union settlement was a weekend guest of homefolks here. Mrs W S Bushby visited Mr A G Shows and family last week. Miss Effie Dolla and Edna Woodward attended the sing at this place Sunday. Mrs W S Boutwell is on the sick list. Many Friendship youths will attend the sing at Union Sunday.
The section’s residents are sowing oats and clearing land for another crop. A large crowd attended preaching at Big Creek on Saturday with H W Powell preaching on Sunday. A candy breaking drew a sizable crowd at Mr and Mrs Alonzo Hill’s home Saturday night. Teachers face blues over operating schools on the credit system. Ladies wear same dresses and boys keep same suits, while even teachers attempt marriage.
Dear Mr. Hardy letter describes community notes and reader wishes to write back. Mr Bawccum of Hattiesburg moved in and builds a new house while Fate Pearson near completion. Rev J W Morris filled an appointment at Monarch Sunday. Interest grows in home fertilizer as Mr Glass forms a music class at Howard with first meeting planned Saturday.
A home occupied by H Smith in the Pettibone Addition burned to the ground Sunday night as the family had just left the living room. They were awakened by flames in the room they had been sitting in, where a fire in the fireplace was blazing. Three fire companies arrived promptly but could not save belongings. Only one trunk and one suit of clothes were saved.
Laurel invests in landscape and home improvements this winter with thousands of water oaks planted and sewer connections spreading. Residents note a transition from shacks to homes, marking the town as a growing, optimistic city improving yearly.
The Y M C A in Laurel reports growing Sunday attendance with Mr R R Jones speaking last Sunday at 3 p m. The Main Street Methodist choir provided music and a big crowd heard Mr James Bowron of Birmingham scheduled to speak next Sunday at 3 p m. State Secretary C H Moorman spoke on prayer Monday evening.

Local events include a Palestine meeting, visits by J M Meador after small pox, and Fairry Hogey’s return to school. Visitors Will Lindsey and Lillie Morgan, plus J T Easley and Prof J B Stringer, are noted among community and school activities.
A lost white dog with lemon ears and about two and a half years old left Mr. Mapp's on Thursday the 14th. Finder should return it to the LEDGER office and will receive a reward.
The T. B. Bonner Co. liqui dated after six prosperous years as Mr. Bonner sells his stake to pursue banking. A new firm named The Tate Co. will take over the mercantile business at the same stand with stockholders from the old firm. F. A. Tate will be president, promising continued success.
The Antioch correspondent reports heavy complaints about the Bogue swamp road and warns it blocks mail delivery. The tone urges the board to fund repairs, noting financial limits but urging action to avoid continued disruption.
Section 1 amends Section 3 of the charter of incorporation of the T B Bonner Company approved by Gov. A H Longino on December 27 1992 and recorded with the Secretary of State The amended Section 3 states the corporate name shall be Tate Company Bte
A. J. Benison, Laurel’s relic man, exhibits curious items from old times including minutes from the first Ma sonic meeting in Paulding, letters like a 1847 note from Joseph Hefflin to Sol Street, and coins from 1836. The letter remains folded with sealing wax, illustrating pre envelope communication.
County home workers report a Monday notice enforcing sanitation rules in the courthouse. A ten dollar fine is stated for spitting on floors defacing walls or furniture. The alert aims to curb disorder and preserve cleanliness in the public building.
Stockholders held an enthusiastic meeting Tuesday with subscriptions largely over subscribed. A committee of T. B. Bonner J. C. Coats and N. L. Pearson Jr. will receive subscription money and handle organization matters. The bank will open with strong deposits and solid backing from leading county business men.
The Nashville theater drew 800 laughs at Prof Hemstreet’s hypnotic show last night. He hypnotized 16 local young men who performed humorous acts as singers clog dancers orators and more. The two hour program offered continuous merriment and promoted interest in hypnotism as taught in colleges and used in hospitals. Prof Hemstreed will perform at the Bijou Theater in Laurel on Wednesday January 27 with a single 25 cent admission.

The Y M C A quartet will sing at Kingston Methodist Church Sunday night. Everyone is invited to hear the good music. Regular services are at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. L F Alford is the pastor.
At Monday's meeting Rev. R. R. Jones of Fifth Avenue Baptist noted large Sabbath crowds and a school of about three hundred. Rev. L. G. Gates, Rev. T. E. Waldrup, and Rev. T. W. Adams spoke to sizable audiences. Adams' group plans a new church after selling the present lot for a post office site. Rev. Waldo W. Moore reports rising memberships and Sunday school interest, with Miss Rennie Livingston joining after years of preference. Kingston Methodist launches a new pastor and parsonage plan to accompany his arrival.

Postoffice hours will close at 6 o'clock after February 1, instead of 6 30, by order of the Postoffice Department.
C. L. Morgan, longtime manager of Itlisville Lumber Co. store, has moved to Laurel and will open a new business in the former Chinese restaurant building. He plans a full line of groceries and feed stuffs, with stock to be opened for business.
Lizzie H. Annis, born in Jasper County Georgia in 1846, died January 8 1909 in Jeaurel Mississippi. A member of the M E church for 39 years she professed faith in Christ shortly before death. She leaves a son B F Annis and two daughters Mrs J R Chambers and Mrs W A Shoemake. Funeral at the Chambers home with Rev Weldo W Moore Rev L G Gates and Rev A B Coit officiating. burial in Hickory Grove cemetery. many friends attended.
