Fire destroys Laurel light and power plant
A Tuesday morning fire destroyed the Laurel Improvement Company light and power plant, causing about 16000 in losses with 8100 insured. The plant served homes, businesses, Laurel Machine and Foundry, and two printing offices. Rebuilding is planned. power may be restored by early next week amid water-saving efforts to prevent pipe freezing. Authorities caution turning water off below frost line to reduce waste.

Perryman Arrested on Retailing Charge in Ellisville
Manuel Perryman, a Black man, was arrested Tuesday in Ellisville by Sheriff J. H. Crawford on a bill from the last grand jury charging retailing. He had gone Monday to pay taxes and was handcuffed and jailed after the tax visit. It is believed two bills exist against Perryman.

Three Car Loads of Seed Irish Potatoes Arrive
Three car loads of early seed Irish potatoes arrived in Laurel consigned to Foote- Patrick Commission Co. to distribute to truck growers. A stoker kept a heated stove in the cars to protect the shipment from extreme cold on the trip from Wisconsin. Local farmers J. J. Hamilton and son Ray mond visited Laurel on business.
