Laurel man killed by North Eastern train near Eastabuchie
William Jarman a well known Laurel citizen died Thursday in a railroad accident at Eastabuchie on the Northeastern line. He walked beside the track to let one train pass and stepped onto the rail as the second train approached. The collision crushed his skull and broke a leg, and he died within moments. The remains were brought to Laurel for burial. Jarman, about sixty, was a Civil War veteran and member of the Confederate Veterans camp. He left two sons Baker and N Y Jarman and many relatives.

Fall Examinations Prompt Sickness and Absences at Laurel High
Fall term exams underway with several held and good results reported. Widespread colds and grip cause many absences slowing pupil progress. Laurel High School sees slight drop as students leave for term break. Franklin Library Society met in High School Hall to elect officers. Wrecks Kill and Injure on Mobile Line Near Beaumont Miss
A major wreck on the Mobile Jackson and Kansas City line occurred Wednesday at 7 PM sixty miles north of Mobile near Beaumont Miss. One man died L B Sullivan aged 32 native of Kentucky. Engineer W A Crawford and fireman J Young were badly scalded. Sullivan was general freight and passenger agent and died at his post. The fast mail train struck a washout and overturned. Also a separate Northeastern freight wreck near Erata caused No 2 to be sidetracked in Laurel and delayed trains until the track was cleared Thursday morning.
