Lieutenant Colonel Evans and Major Brett inspected Company E of the Sec. Regiment. Captain J. B. Pack was ill so Lieut. W. C. O Ferrill led the unit. The audit focused on equipment as required by the Dick bill. Thirty five members attended with one absence. The company hopes for an armory in the new courthouse, and seven years of attendance have kept per cent above sixty five. Laurel shows stronger equipment value than Ellisville with around $500 cited.

Nine Buildings Burn In Morning Fire
At three o'clock Monday morning nine tenant houses in the bottoms were burned. Seven belonged to Dr. Jarvis, small structures worth about 1500 dollars with no insurance. Two houses owned by L. I. Goodgame were destroyed, valued at 1000 dollars, with 500 dollars insured. Cause unknown but suspected incendiary as two clusters burned nearly simultaneously, water mains distant and connections delayed.

Dr Ira Eddins Transported to New Orleans for Operation
Dr Ira Eddins of Stringer was taken from the M J & K C train in Laurel on Wednesday evening in a dangerous condition. He was bound for New Orleans for medical care but became too weak to continue to Laurel. Thursday morning he revived slightly and left on the early train. He suffers from an abnormal growth in the stomach and the exact diagnosis was not yet determined.
