Denham Market To Build New Two Story Quarters
Ground was broken Monday for a new two story brick building for Laurel to house the Denham Market on Front street between Sam Carriere's building and Warren Furniture Store. The modern structure will include sanitation and convenience and use the entire lower floor, 25 by 90 feet, for the market. S. L. Craft has the contract and will complete the building within sixty days. The current market has been rented but not yet announced for occupancy.

Our Public Schools association at Ellisville on January 30 drew over seventy five teachers despite cold weather. Dr. T B Bailey from the University and Supt. F B Woodley of Hattiesburg spoke. Supt. Allison and Ellisville’s teachers hosted a luncheon honoring the C T A. The next meeting will be in Laurel. several schools closed after three or four months. Final examinations set for March 23 and 24 will determine advancement of pupils.

Eightieth Birthday Celebration at Jefcoat Farm
A large crowd gathered at David Jefcoat’s Big Creek home near Sosa Mississippi to honor his eightieth birthday. About two hundred relatives attended including seventeen living children, fourteen married, all living nearby. Confederate veteran Jefcoat moved to the country in 1858 and has spent his life on the same farm. The event featured morning handshakes, a grand dinner, and a frolic the young folks enjoyed that evening. Children named include G. M. Jefcoat Rich Frank Joe Dempsie Jim John V Jess and Mesdames Indiana Sumrall Laura Shows Frances Parish Idella Knight Ella Jackson Martha and Nancy Jefcoat.

The Livery Stable of T S L Lee will occupy the whole building after sale of present quarters to Eastman and Gardiner. Lee plans a three story brick building on Commercial Avenue with a fifty foot front, starting twenty five feet west of the Carnes building. Ground floor for wagons, second floor for buggies and stock, third for feed stuffs. The present stables will be torn down later by Eastman Gardiner Co who bought the property.

Fendley of Fulton were here for the burial. W. W. Heidelberg, father of the clothiers, was in Laurel recently and known in Mississippi politics. He owns a notable hill stock farm with Red Poll cattle, Berkshire hogs, and Merino sheep.
