Jones county court district bill passes Senate after long fight
The Mississippi Senate approved by 26 to 16 a measure creating a new Jones county court district. Laurel Cotton Mills awards contract for large mill extension
Laurel Cotton Mills let a January 27 contract to Jeffries Construction Company of Birmingham for a 256 by 160 foot two story addition north of the existing plant. Work starts February 15 and finishes in July. The project costs 350000 with 150 new jobs, bringing total employment to 400. Output will reach 200000 yards weekly needing 175 bales of cotton. The mill will use as much cotton as Jones County raised last year.

The party visited Doolittle Brothers farms in Newton before returning, praising the route's development potential for Mobile interests. Car repairer Bob Powers killed by train at Saratoga
A car repairer named Bob Powers was struck and instantly killed Monday afternoon while walking along the railroad main line at Saratoga. He stepped onto the rail to the Y and was hit by an approaching train. witnesses say his body was severely damaged and later turned over to his family for burial nearby.
