The Y M C A rooms were busy during the holidays with college boys led by Archie McCormick attracting crowds. Laurel showcases twenty six youths sent to colleges at a monthly cost near 3900 dollars, a record for the town. Echoes praise the front for future generations. John Blacklidge known as Uncle John narrowly avoided serious harm after his wagon was frightened by a train switch engine at Magnolia Street near T. B. Bonner store. The mule team lurched, he fell, was run over, then freed and cared for in the store. He recovered and went home.
