The Laurel Relief Society plans its next regular meeting in the Central School Library Room on Monday January 3 at 4 p m All members are urged to attend The society is a benevolent group aiding the sick and needy and is expanding its reach in the community It asks Laurel citizens to learn about its aims and proceedings and to become familiar with its work through careful examination of its charitable efforts.

Cotton Prices Hold After Holiday Pause On Liverpool Markets
After a holiday stretch ending Friday, Liverpool opened the post holiday market firm with middling spots at 8 42d, up from 8 26d on Thursday. New Orleans quotes middling at 15 5 16d. Liverpool's Wednesday market was quiet and steady at 8 46d, about 16.80 American. By Thursday middling was 8 49d in Liverpool, about 16.98 American, near 17 cents. New Orleans at 15 11 16. In Jackson Mississippi, Marvin N. Gann, long known as a bookkeeper and stenographer, has joined the real estate firm of R. L. Ford & Co. Ford and Prof. Mava R. City urged to fix dangerous alley and mud embankment
Citizens in Laurel urge the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to repair the alley between Fourth and Fifth Avenues and the embankment in front of the public school. The unsafe mud and lack of railing threaten children and residents, exposing the city to liability. A civic meeting at the Y M C A is scheduled for 2 30 with prayers beforehand.

Sidewalk Projects Planned Across City Streets
City Engineer Catlin outlines two new sidewalks. One will run along the east side of Sixth Avenue between Seventh and Eighth Streets in front of the Waldrup Beers and Marshall property. The second will front the Mahon ey Noble Wright Sessums and Whitaker properties on the west side of Fifth Avenue north of Eighth Street.

Splinter in Foot Plagued Crottstown Veteran Seeks Removal
Mr. B L Rogers a Crottstown resident and Confederate veteran visited Laurel for a minor operation on a splinter lodged in his foot for 60 years since he was fourteen. Now seventy four he finally sought removal after years of no trouble.

Pay Taxes and Save Trouble. Remember the sooner you pay your taxes, the more certain will trouble be escaped. In the last days of January taxpayers are frequently compelled to stay in town two or three days and then some are left out and must then pay damages. Mr. W. M. Tedford has been depending a few days in the city. Mr. Tedford, at present, is making headquarters at Lexie, Miss., and his friends are glad to have him back to town for the holidays. Little Misses Nezzie and Myrtle Horne spent a few days with their sister, Mrs. R. L. Ford, the first of the week.
