Early this morning the community learned of the death of Mr J M Robb, a well known local druggist who had served the town for several years. The tragedy occurred under circumstances described as self-inflicted. Robb was a member of the local business and social circles and his passing leaves a gap in the town’s commercial life. Further details are scarce as authorities investigate.
Mr J M Robb a well known pharmacist at the Mississippi drug store in Laurel died at seven this morning from a self injected hypodermic in his left arm. He wrote a note to his wife before taking the drug and a medical team failed to revive him. Doctors say acute melancholia likely caused the act though financial worries are suspected. He leaves a wife two young children and relatives in Meridian.
Dr Jno T O Ferrall has entered Belvue Hospital in New York City for an extensive course. He is preparing thoroughly and friends predict a bright professional future. Belvue Hospital is among the nation’s largest.
Mig Mollie Eazell, long time saleslady at the Wm White store, resigns after five years to join the Ladies' Specialty Store led by Mr W C O Leary. She invites friends to visit her there. Also, Mr and Mrs Otis Boyd welcomed a baby girl on Wednesday night.
Free Sunday gatherings in front of the Laurel hotel invite all in everyday clothes to the amen corner. A movement to drive the Devil from Laurel is promoted with a 5:30 PM Sunday talk. An enthusiastic YMCA group met Monday at 8 PM to discuss the evil in Laurel and urge Christian youth to stand for the right.
The supervisors are still in session after three weeks of toil on the assessment rolls. The session began August 2 in the second district, with a move to Ellisville during the second week, and then back to the second district as they refine the roll beyond its former state.

Editor R H Henry of the Clarion Lodger visited in town to be with his father who faces slim hopes of recovery due to extreme age and multiple ailments. Miss Mittie Chambers of Ellisville shopped in the city Tuesday. S D Stainton returned from New Orleans after a short stay. J C Clark Drug Co offers an up to date line of perfumes and toilet water.
City court faced a heavy docket as Monday brought a total of twenty five cases to trial. Judges and prosecutors managed a crowded schedule with multiple verdicts expected.
Monday's session saw twenty five minor cases including drunkenness profanity petit larceny and gaming. Fines totaled 107 00 with most offenders paying 5 00 plus costs as officers noted steady stingent patrols.
Dr Gray made a business trip to Laurel on Saturday. A small pox case was reported in the area. Local youths enjoyed an ice cream supper at Mr and Mrs G W Camp’s home Saturday night. Captain H A Quinnally left Jackson for Camp Perry Ohio to join Mississippi’s fifteen marksmen for the NRA tournament, formed from a state guard event at Capt Williamson ranges near Vicksburg.
A three story brick hotel is planned in Laurel as a major new development. Builders announce the project will elevate the town’s status and create jobs while fitting the area’s architectural style and commercial growth outlook.
W W Beatty has closed a deal for the Magnolia and Oak streets corner opposite the Commercial Bank. Grading has begun for a three story brick hotel of 40 by 80 feet with a cafe on the first floor run by Gem cafe operators Lucas and Bellemain. The project aims to meet travel demand with modern accommodations.

Rev W A McComb state evangelist closes a highly successful union meeting at Seminary with large numbers joining the church. An outdoor service drew a wide crowd as stores closed and participants joined in. Supporters discuss bringing McComb to Laurel for at least four weeks to hold a union meeting with a 2500 seat capacity.
N. C. Pearson was a visitor to Ellisville on Sunday, taking in local sights and meeting residents during the daytime visit.
A Laurel list shows townspeople spending ten days in Chicago. They left Sunday on the special pulman from Laurel for the trip. Names include Hicks Patton Lewis Floyd Lowell Ratcliff Craft Binison Rumble Moorehead Williams Richards Lassell Dor sey Webb Benison Tate and others.
Mr and Mrs J D Warten thank friends for kindness and sympathy during the sickness and death of their baby. Their loss is lighter thanks to the thoughtful remembrance and assistance received.
President Taft instructs Secretary Nagel that census work must be free of political activity by all supervisors and enumerators. He argues the vast cost of the census cannot fund a party or individual’s promotion.
