Across Jones County voters weigh a proposed 50000 courthouse in Ellisville with 2059 signatures filed to date. Of 3958 taxpayers, 1508 reside in Beat Two and more than half have signed petitions potentially defeating the measure. The Laurel base ball board hires Bruce Hayes of New Orleans to manage the team for the upcoming season. Waite John Moore Joe Kreucher W. C. Walker Ben Walker S. Walker Geo. May Fred May M. C. May B. Welch and T. T. Stevens. L. Weitzel J. M. Jayne and L. M. Allison visited Mobile this week to see the sights.
The Methodists of the city plan a brick church at about $10,000 to replace the Main street structure. The new building will seat 650, be well lighted, and likely built before fall. Some valuable real estate may be sold to fund the project.
In Perry Mississippi on April 28 the first Perry county sheriff primary to fill the Eaton unexpired term produced McCallum with a large majority over Myers and Magruda. Election was quiet with about half votes polled. H B Wilson and family moved to Meridian to start a new business. Wilson esteemed printer for LEDGER. Mrs I C Thornton and Mrs Louis Ross reported ill in town.
Miss Hettie Robinson and J C Todd, both of Ellisville, were quietly married at the groom’s brothers’ Kingston residence on Sunday afternoon. Rev D P Bradford officiated. Mrs Robinson had objected, making it a case of love triumphing over parental wishes.

D M Bush and Miss Etalia Brown were married at Water Valley Mississippi on Sunday. The couple will make Laurel their future home. Captain C B Percy chief engineer of the M J & K C and Oliver Humes assistant engineer of Mobile were in Laurel Thursday. Dr Tatum of Newton spent Thursday in Laurel.
