In the first district, voters of the second district spoke clearly despite a void injunction and threats. Misleading circulars and other disgraceful methods were alleged from certain individuals, yet the outcome reflects the peoples’ decision.
Unfair tactics used to halt voting in the second district led two election commissioners to publish circulars claiming an injunction barred the election. The piece argues the injunction is invalid and asserts the vote was held legally with ballot boxes and keys placed in the Circuit Clerk's custody, predicting the commission will soon be compelled to declare the result.
West End Methodist welcomed a full house on Easter Sunday evening with special music and the sacrament. Six members joined full membership while four others united with the church. An Easter service was also held at Kingston church with the sacrament administered. In the afternoon Epworth League presented an Easter program. The evening service was led by Brother Norvell.
A Thursday evening blaze at Kingston Lumber Company nearly destroyed the dry kiln. The fire began in an accessible end and, with only one direction to spread, was extinguished before gaining headway. No injuries reported.

William McCurdy, a Jasper County native and Civil War captain, died at his Heidelberg home at age 75. A Presbyterian elder and Mason active in county affairs, he leaves a widow, three children, and a deceased eldest son John. Survived by a son practicing law in Beeville Texas and two daughters Mrs Huff and Miss Virgie. Remains to be laid in Philadelphia cemetery with church and Masonic honors.
Coop McKenzie died last Friday evening at about 40 years of age. He left a wife and five young children. He had expressed willingness to die but regretted leaving his family to hard times. A Mt. Nebo Baptist Church member for about 20 years, he was laid to rest Saturday evening at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, with Eld. W. Thigpen conducting the burial. A large crowd attended as friends mourned the loss. Death, a painful reminder, is approaching us all.

Mrs H C Scott died at her Laurel home yesterday morning at 6 of asthma, aged 66. She came here five years ago with her husband who died two years ago. Survived by son A H Scott and grandchildren locally, plus a son in Montreal and a daughter in Florida. Remains to be buried at Hickory Grove cemetery this morning.
Y M C A notes announce Rev Gates’s upcoming last Sunday service and a free basketball game Friday night featuring the Lyons and Tigers at the Y M C A hall. Laurel High School baseball team beat Hattiesburg 9 to 7 away last Saturday and hopes for another game soon. Also mentions Rev R L Campbell, a wedding of Alma Sexton and J A Ray, and Dr Hyde at the State Medical Association with praise for Mayo’s lecture.
