Rumors say Northeastern Railroad may repair cars as part of operations that could boost the Frisco system. A claim about Laurel Mississippi becoming a major railroad town is noted, and a police chief incident is dismissed as untrue.
A rumor in railroad circles says New Orleans & Northeastern plans to join with New Orleans Mobile & Chicago and Frisco to build mammoth car repair shops in Laurel. The New Orleans Mobile & Chicago cites bids for a twelve stall roundhouse on city land. A local report notes New Orleans & Northeastern cancelled Mississippi Central shops contract in Hattiesburg, laying off fifty machinists, amid flood delays.
Jackson April 4 secretary J B Starling of the Democratic state executive committee issued a call for a noon Thursday meeting to fix the date for the state convention and designate delegates to the national Democratic convention Bathmore will be chosen. Due to Mississippi code there will be no preferential party primaries as requested by a joint resolution of the legislature.
Laurel Light and Railway Company plans a tall office building at Oak and Magnolia, with five or six stories and electric elevators. The project would occupy a prime business district corner, financed by the railway’s new Oak street property purchase, to rise this summer and spur city growth.
