Deputies Remove Live Grenade from Strip Hotel

Maintenance man Donald Fess spotted a khaki can resembling a grenade in the Strip hotel basement around 11 am. Deputies Sgts Harry Clark and Paul Wilkins evacuated and examined the simulated grenade to prevent damage or injury to guests nearby.

Terrorist Attack Kills Five at Flagstaff House Gathering

A bomb exploded yesterday near Flagstaff House in Accra killing five and wounding forty as crowds of about two thousand dancers celebrated President Kwame Nkrumah's near miss in an assassination attempt. Police said the blast occurred four hundred yards from the main gate to Nkrumah's office. Nkrumah was uninjured.

Soblen Wracked By Convulsions

Dr Robert A Soblen a 61 year old Soviet spy suffered convulsions and possible brain disturbance after an overdose of barbiturates in an ambulance on the way to deportation to the United States. Medical staff at Hillingdon Hospital report treatment is controlling the convulsions as detectives guard the ward. Soblen has been held at Brixton Prison since July for wartime espionage.

Four year old Jeannie Lee Odem found Aug 20 near the Indianapolis bus terminal died unidentified until Saturday night. Police arrested Lois Lettler and Ruby St. Clair on child neglect charges after a reunion with the child. a policewoman cited that Jeannie Lee does not want to go home with her mother.

Georgians Burn Churches and Attack FBI Agent

Two Negro churches, one aiding Negro voter registration, were burned yesterday. An FBI agent at the scenes was assaulted by a white man, Virgil E Puckett, and jailed in Albany. James E McMann, special agent in charge of the Atlanta FBI office, said the agent was not injured.

Woman Driver Arrest Triggers Near Riot in Pacoima

In Pacoima California a traffic stop led to the arrest of Evelyn Vokey 33 sparking a near riot with as many as 600 bystanders. Officers reported minor injuries three people booked for resisting police and failing to disperse amidst the disturbance.
