Carter Seeks Nevada Roles on Energy Lands and Guns
Presidential candidate Jimmy Carter says he never proposed federal action to curb Nevada’s gambling. He envisions Nevada Test Site jobs preserved if a nuclear ban is signed and suggests converting the site to a research center for energy technologies, especially solar power. He criticizes the Bureau of Land Management for eroding land-use rights and supports public involvement in decisions on public lands. He backs gun control measures including firearm registration and restrictions for felons and the mentally incompetent. Senator Paul Laxalt links Carter to anti Nevada gambling views based on religion.
