Judge Studies Bid for Freedom in Campbell Habeas Case
District Judge Clarence Sundean says he will decide Monday on Riches Campbell's writ of habeas corpus to free him on murder charges. Deputy Public Defender Robert Peccole argues the state failed to prove cause of death or probable cause. The state asserts sufficient evidence from the Sept. 8 preliminary hearing to bind Campbell over for trial. Two witnesses claimed a fight occurred but did not see it. Simpson was last seen near a mesquite bush and later found miles away in the desert. the witnesses also saw Campbell in his car near the bush before driving off.
