Planners Delay Route of Freeway re: Henderson site clash and cost

The Technical Committee of the Regional Streets and Highways Commission deferred a decision on the $30 million east leg of the downtown expressway until after the new year. Disputes centered on routing near Henderson versus two miles north, with some members urging delay to await the Las Vegas Valley Transportation Study due January. Chairman Richard P. Sauer criticized dissenters as preferring local traffic needs over an interstate freeway. A further note reports county engineer George Monahan suggesting a site near an athletic stadium tied to a county bond issue, which Sauer warned could double costs. A special Technical Committee meeting is set for Tuesday to review rules and procedures.
