Issue Booklet On New Plant For Local Area
Extension Circular No. 145 from the Cooperative Extension Service and the Agricultural Experiment Station of the University of Nevada outlines safflower potential in Southern Nevada. Nevada could join western safflower states with yields around two tons per acre on better soils, though costs are higher due to fertilizer and extra irrigations. At recent prices of 85 to 90 dollars per ton, returns of 170 to 180 dollars per acre are plausible. the leaflet covers growth, cultivation, harvest, yields, costs, and safflower's future in Nevada. Authors are Gayland D. Robison, Howard P. Cords, and Ray K. Petersen, based at the Southern Nevada Field Station.
