San Francisco reports scattered walkouts by construction workers under a no contract no work policy. Contracts expired last night in northern and central California, with the threat of a statewide tie up of seven billion dollars in projects. The walkouts began over a month ago and are expected to spread rapidly.
The 1962 TV awards list highlights The Judy Garland Show and Victoria Regina among top programs. Best acting nods include Ethel Waters and Inger Stevens for leading roles. Comedy nominees feature The Andy Griffith Show and The Bob Newhart Show while Westerns show less dominance this year.

The Clark County Ground Water Board rejected a permit for a nine hole pitch and putt golf course behind the Tally Ho motel across from the Dunes on the Strip. The board cited district water system connections and consistency with larger Dunes project as key issues, while several smaller permits were approved subject to district and health department conditions.
The Herald reports co sponsors Sam Silverman of Boston and Norm Roths of Syracuse pulled out of Bozeman after slow ticket sales in the East. Fullmer remains the NBA champion while Pender is champ in Massachusetts, New York and Europe. A rescheduled title fight is expected, with a June 9 TV bout likely. Rights for the Emile Griffith versus Ralph Dupas San Francisco welterweight title fight were sold for 60 000.
May Day featured large parades in Moscow and Peiping with declarations against capitalism. In Moscow Defense Minister Malinovsky warned Kennedy of a possible preventive war as Soviet forces displayed rockets and missiles. Anti US demonstrations occurred in Tokyo Caracas and West Berlin while Peiping celebrated with mass crowds and portraits of Mao Lenin Stalin and Marx.
Burglars took nearly 1700 dollars in sporting and other gear from three sites. Clyde Lawson of Long Beach reports his Overton cabin was broken into during his absence with beds and linens gone. Robert Orr near Pioche says fishing and sporting equipment and appliances were stripped, leaving a child's pants in the bathroom. The Fabulous Car Wash on Las Vegas Boulevard South reported broken gaming machines and about 481 dollars in change missing.
Helldorado officials urged merchants and citizens to wear Western clothing and decorate businesses. They asked employers to involve staff and promote participation in a parade float from a local service club and to wear Helldorado buttons. George Thompson, longtime Las Vegas resident and retiring officer, was honored with a plaque and hunting rifle. Abe Schiller pledged a fishing rod and reel.
Two North Las Vegas teenagers were arrested for burglary at Bargain Store on Las Vegas Boulevard. Detective Ray Gaines tied the Jan 13 theft of guns and money at 406 to a 17-year-old boy and Tim O Meyer 18 of East Bonanza Road. They admitted guilt and led to a desert cache with most stolen guns. an attempted pawn last week assisted the arrest.
