Zoning Change Keeps Halle Hewetson Students at Home
Clark County School District officials said, despite boundary shifts, students from Halle Hewetson Elementary will not transfer next year. Kenny Guinn cited new homes near Halle Hewetson and possible overburdened capacity as reasons. Public Works objections prompted a city meeting, but district actions follow board approval and district-notification norms. Crossing guards praised at Charleston Boulevard and Owens Avenue crossings while concerns arise over six lane crossings on 25th Street.

Rights Group Seeks $20,000 Federal Grant for Nevada
William Wynn, executive secretary of the State Equal Rights Commission, says the commission seeks a $20,000 federal grant to launch a statewide effort to widen employment opportunities for minority groups in Nevada. If funded, the money would mobilize a concerted push to persuade employers to create more jobs and training for Negro, Indian, and Mexican American workers and to use minority hiring data to target firms with poor patterns.
