Seafarers Pull Out of Nevada Gambling Union Drive
The Seafarers International Union announced it is exiting Las Vegas after failing to win a NLRB election in one year. Port official Joe Goren said the Las Vegas office is closed, dues were never accepted, and organizers fear the city’s climate. The union had hoped to challenge the Culinary Union and AFSCME affiliate, but votes never reached 5 percent plus one. A 30-day NLRB extension in Lake Tahoe leaves whether to withdraw there undecided.
