Helicopters crash in Viet Nam search efforts
Two US Army H34 helicopters crashed during a search for a downed Mohawk plane and its crew near Saigon. Three Marines were injured when a chopper lost engine power and went down near a 5,000 foot hill. A second craft diverted for repairs with no injuries. An Army special forces medic team treated the wounded as another Mohawk crew member possibly escaped after the crash. Meanwhile heavy fighting 45 miles south of Saigon left 24 militiamen dead, 15 wounded and six missing as Viet Cong guerrillas reportedly captured dozens of weapons.
