Powell Faces Split of Education and Labor Committee
Rep. Adam Clayton Powell faces a bid to split his Education and Labor Committee into separate education and labor panels. Rep. Phil Landrum proposed the change amid a 42 percent budget cut and controversy over overseas trips funded by taxpayers. If approved, Powell could choose which new panel to chair, with Rep. Carl Perkins as potential successor.
