Nevada National Guard to gain five units in reserve consolidation
Nevada will add five units and about 190 men as the Defense Department consolidates Guard and Army Reserve operations. The two Air Defense battalions will merge into one with 537 personnel, and four engineer units plus a helicopter ambulance company will be added. No armory construction is needed, and a majority of new personnel may come from Army Reserve components. Eight helicopters and seven pilots will support the ambulance company. The plan runs from July this year to April 1966, with federal funding to cover costs. Representatives from Nevada included Adjutant General James May and Brigadier General William Reinken.
