City to consider tough gun law restricting pistols

A proposed 72 hour waiting period for pistol purchases would be enforced along with police registration and strict limits on adult and juvenile possession. The amendment targets pistols under 12 inch barrels and bans sales to non naturalized foreigners and those with violent crime or mental illness records. Delivery awaits police approval after the waiting period, and BB or pellet guns face new juvenile restrictions. Whitmore announced the measure for the March 4 meeting and future study committee review.
