The Senate was set to follow Mansfield who proposed a three month extension of the surtax while a broader bill to extend the tax for a year remains pending. Mansfield said he will introduce a resolution urging the extension as the House debates the longer measure.

U S Dist Judge Peirson M Hall in Los Angeles upheld a June 5 order dismissing bankruptcy proceedings against Howard Hughes Landmark Hotel clearing the way for a July 1 opening. The sale to Hughes for 17.3 million hinged on clearing the bankruptcy case. A solvent status remained a condition of sale between Plaza Towers Inc and Hughes.
Black Panther Party leaders disavowed a coloring book promoting violence against police and merchants. Bobby Seale and David Hilliard said 1,000 copies were printed by Larry Powell, unauthorized, with 25 seen and the rest copied later. They stressed the booklet did not fund or affect the breakfast program started January 20, 1969. Powell testified before McClellan Committee. leaders called him a paid government agent and a false witness.
London coroner ruled Judy Garland’s death an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. Gavin Thurston said high barbiturate levels in her blood overwhelmed her system, denying alcohol or suicide. Autopsy and inquest at Westminister morgue clarified no foul play.
A daylight hold up at the Bank of Las Vegas on Sahara Avenue yielded 4025 dollars. A lone gunman, described as about 25 years old, fled in a white car after demanding cash. He directed the teller to hand over bundles, not loose bills, and shouted for more money at each pass.
