Arizona entrants captured most honors at the Memorial Day weekend Jackpot Rodeo in Boulder City. About 1500 Westerners and tourists watched over two days as the event, sponsored by the Horseman's Association, drew strong crowds.
George Heri of Los Angeles won the inaugural professional trampoline title at the Groasinger Country Club in Ferndale New York, finishing ahead of all challengers.
On Lake Mead near Boulder City six teenagers from Las Vegas and locals faced capsizing danger Sunday afternoon. Richard Corderman aged 19 and Carolbeth Cooper 16 were among the six who fell overboard while lowering a sail. A motor boat carrying four Las Vegas youths tried to assist but filled with water and was abandoned. The group swam to a yacht in Hemenway Harbor and were saved by a patrol boat.
The Bureau of Reclamation extends indefinitely the July 1 deadline for Colorado River Storage Project hydroelectric power under contract. A new date will be set only after confirming adequate water supply to support firm power from Glen Canyon Powerplant. The northern and southern project divisions cover Colorado New Mexico Utah Wyoming and Arizona plus parts of California and Nevada.
In Goodsprings volunteers mobilized Saturday to haul gravel mix and pour eight yards of concrete for a new fire house. Fire Chief Ira Proud led the crew while residents provided a bean feed and refreshments at the clubhouse.
