Water Project Clears Senate Panel In Nevada Fight
Civic and government leaders hailed the Senate Interior Committee’s approval of the $80 million Southern Nevada Water Project and urged swift action in the House. Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce President Robb C. Johnson noted the move as the first hurdle cleared and urged review before further comment. City Commissioner Grant Stewart welcomed the lower interest rate, avoiding an estimated $10 million extra cost. Stewart and Walter Baring pressed for an early hearing, possibly this month or July, to advance the project amid ongoing water shortages.
