A Bernalillo County grand jury indicted Las Vegas resident Grover Walker for perjury over his claimed meeting with Howard Hughes. Walker testified he met Hughes at Albuquerque airport and produced a signed document admitting fatherhood for Richard R Hughes of Albuquerque. An executive of Summa Corp denied the claims.

Refrigerator Explosion Kills LV Repairman
Edward Poole 35 of Las Vegas died from injuries after a refrigerator compressor exploded in his face while he repaired a unit at the rear of J and B Furniture Co on Boulder Highway. Investigators said welding a section of the appliance caused the blast and Poole was rushed to Sunrise Hospital where he died hours later. No fire resulted.

Nevada Deportations Move Ten Illegal Aliens to Mexico
Ten illegal aliens were deported from Nevada to Mexico after being taken into custody by the U S Border Patrol in the Mesquite Bunkerville area. Jim Walsh head of the immigration department said the aliens worked for farmers Bruno Biasi in Bunkerville and Archie Hughes in Mesquite.
