Neil Armstrong climbed from the Eagle lander at 10:09:32 p.m. Nevada time ending the first human step on the lunar surface after about 2 hours 10 minutes outside the craft. He reached the moon at 1:17:45 p.m. Nevada time and set foot on alien soil for the first time in history.
United Press International reports global reaction to the Apollo 11 moon landing. Neil Armstrong becomes the first human on the lunar surface at 7 56 20 p m Nevada time followed by Buzz Aldrin at 8 16 p m. They describe lunar terrain and display television footage showing Eagle and the astronauts on the surface.
Americans watched in stunned relief as events unfolded on television sparking a shared mood of pride. Citizens nationwide paused, then exhaled as dramatic moments filled screens and headlines, reflecting a rallying moment for the country.
The nation watched Armstrong and Aldrin reach the moon with a shared excitement. Americans stayed glued to television and radio as the historic moment unfolded on a warm July Sunday.
