Romanian Orthodox Bishop Defends U.S. Vietnam Policy
Bishop Valerian D. Trifa of Jackson, Michigan, head of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, criticized American delegates at the World Council of Churches assembly in Uppsala for negative views on U.S. policy in Vietnam. He proposed drafting a sharp resolution condemning U.S. actions and broader interventions, while urging focus on preaching salvation. He also questioned American Christians’ push to reform towns and social systems and sought scrutiny of youth participant selection.
