UPI reports U. S. scientists prepared to launch the Mariner 4 mission for a historic sweep of Mars. The windmill shaped Cosmic Eye will photograph 21 shots over about 4,000 miles of terrain beginning 8 20 p m with the first images due for release Friday if the instrument functions well.
Senator Alan Bible disclosed from Washington that he will meet Atomic Energy Commission chairman Glen Seaborg to seek solutions to labor unrest at the Nevada Test Site. Reynolds Electrical and Engineering Co. informed of 80 more layoffs as 70 union members were already affected by earlier cutbacks. Bible urged Wackenhut Services Inc. to renew negotiations with the 240 International Guards Association members on strike for 13 days.
Attorney Louis Wiener said Nevada Equities Inc will spend many millions to develop 411 acres behind the Las Vegas Convention Center including Thunderbird Downs, which will be demolished. Wiener did not reveal future plans or hotels or casinos.
The City Commission tentatively agreed with First Gray Line West Corp on a franchise for a new city bus service. Vegas Transit Lines will operate the fleet replacement to begin immediately after final approval. The 11 year pact covers route revamps and modernization with two new 45 passenger air conditioned diesel buses per year and two way radios.
Viet Cong guerrillas launched a two hour mortar bombardment on the Dak Sut district headquarters near the Laotian border in Kontum province. The attack follows days of sporadic fire and ground fighting with unspecified casualties reported. A recently arrived U.S. Marine was killed by sniper fire nearby.
The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce approved a 14 point condition list sponsors must meet to obtain Chamber sanction for two proposed air races this fall. Robb C. Johnson said the committee will require written and notarized evidence that all points are met before approval. The Chamber appointed a special committee to handle further contacts with the race groups.

Intensive search in Red Rock Canyon Monday night for brothers John Miller aged 9 and Harold Hamm aged 8. Las Vegas sheriff jeep posse and juvenile officers scoured the canyon after the boys left without parental permission riding bikes toward the mountains from 2721 Richfield along Sahara Avenue.
Clark County Liquor Licensing Board schedules a license revocation hearing for Pussycat a Go Go on July 30 at 2 p.m. Sheriff Ralph Lamb requested the action after noting ongoing police problems and arrests. Lamb had previously notified owners Garwood Van and Joe Yip that revocation would follow if issues were not addressed.
