Four Strikes End as Sheet Metal Workers Return to Jobs
More than 200 union members will resume work Monday after a nine day strike by Sheet Metal Workers Local 88 last Friday. The larger dispute involves 1 000 operating engineers 1 000 carpenters 400 painters and 240 guards at the Nevada Test Site all on strike against various employers. The Local 12 representative said they are willing to meet contractors but have heard nothing. The vast 23 000 member local also strikes in California with no progress. Negotiations with Federated Employers faltered as engineers press for terms tied to California dispute. The Vegas area strike halts I 15 and other projects while some Local 1780 carpenters return to work with smaller contractors. Further action awaits negotiations on the Big 4 contractors.

Skydiver Photographer Dies After Parachute Fails
In Oroville California 25 year old skydiving photographer Robert Green died when his helmet mounted camera prevented his parachute from opening after he pulled the ripcord at about 3000 feet. Nelson Powell escaped injury after his own chute tangled but freed feet and landed. Vine Wheelock and several other divers witnessed the accident.

Mad Bomber Strikes Chicago Again Near Wrigley Building
A bomb exploded under a car along the Wrigley Building lower level on Sunday night, damaging two vehicles and shattering windows in Chicago. It was the third blast in four days in the Loop with no injuries but extensive property damage. Police reported heightened patrols and the blast echoed into the UPI offices nearby. The hood was blown 18 feet into the tunnel ceiling. another car damaged as glass littered the alley and tracks. The blast appeared less powerful than Saturday’s explosion.

Call Off Search for Little Girl
The search for Denise Clinton, kidnapped during a motel robbery, was called off after about 100 hours of investigation with no clues to her whereabouts.
