Longer Viet Tour Brings Faster Exit From Army
The Army announces a rule allowing soldiers to extend their Vietnam tours from 90 to 150 days to qualify for early release. If a soldier has six months left, an extra month in Vietnam can yield nearly five months home. Those who refuse extension lose early release and may serve the full remaining term. Overseas tours under 18 months like Korea will also be extended to qualify for early release. The policy aims to reduce turnover and boost unit readiness and does not affect those who re enlist.
