Investigators confirm an earlier failed attempt to kill Las Vegas labor leader Ralph Alsup. A bullet hole found in a car Alsup traded in last May prompted the renewed inquiry, with officers noting the shot may have been fired through the left front window.
The Sun reports Alsup was killed by a single blast from a shotgun as he entered his Warm Springs Road home on January 19. Investigators note an ambush lasting about 30 minutes and a desert hike to a waiting car, with shells found by the car’s current owner and the vehicle once linked to a union. No arrests had been made.
Four Las Vegas teenagers returning from an outing at Red Rock Canyon were killed when their car was broadside by an oncoming vehicle at 3 p.m. yesterday. The crash left five youths injured in a devastating two car accident.
A two-vehicle crash 20 miles west of downtown Las Vegas killed four teenagers Louis Jaremille Bruce Robshaw John Scott and Allan Dillie. Five other youths were hospitalized in fair condition at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital. Principal names include Joe Howe and Officer Dillie whose son Allan was among the dead.
Four thousand U.S. Marines landed on a Viet Nam beachhead 320 miles northeast of Saigon in a major search and destroy amphibious operation. The landing, north of a clash between U.S. forces and two to three Communist battalions, faced little opposition beyond sniper fire as marines secured the area and advanced inland.
