Power Outage Strikes Las Vegas Worst in 15 Years
Nevada Power Co spokesman Bill McGarry said a near hurricane wind storm hit Las Vegas Valley around 3 p.m. causing widespread damage. Over 1,500 calls flooded the company as 5 major transmission lines failed. Crews worked 24 hours with 25 crews restoring power, but 700 outages remained Friday morning and 50 by 5 p.m. The Flamingo Road area suffered extensive pole damage and downed lines. Permanent repairs to lines and transformers will continue over the weekend.
