Four men injured in Henderson chemical plant blast
Four construction workers from Owl Construction Co were injured when a barrier around a reaction vessel at the Stauffer Chemical Plant in Henderson exploded. Bill Kramer and Charlie Smith were hospitalized with facial and hand burns. two others were treated and released. Plant officials noted minimal plant damage and ongoing safety investigations.

Two Men Die In Violent Car Mishaps
A 66 year old Las Vegas man Claudio Aragon died after being struck in a crosswalk at Second and Garces Streets. Clifton Armstrong 23 died in a pre-dawn crash at Nellis Boulevard and Highway 91 after his car failed to heed a stop sign. Olson 62 was cited for failure to yield in Aragon’s crosswalk. This brings Southern Nevada traffic fatalities to eight since January.

The offshore oil spill flow decreased from about 21 000 to 4 200 gallons daily aiding efforts to cap leaks and clean beaches. A 1 300 million damage suit was filed against Union Oil and partners Mobil Gulf Texaco for damages to beaches boats and tourism in Santa Barbara County. About 500 workers continued cleanup along the coast as tourism revenues suffer.
